Sunday July 30th, 2017
It is 16.00 hours in the afternoon and ready tot drive to Amsterdam to see U2 the second time this weekend.
The gig on Saturday evening was amazing. I was sitting on the right side of the stage and did have a good view. Not so far away as I thought it would be.
After a smooth drive I arrived in the Media Parking and after a 10 minutes walk I entered the JinSo restaurant to meet up with Peter.
After a delicious diner we walked to the entry of The Amsterdam Arena “Zuid J” and went inside.
This evening we were standing and again on the right side of the stage only much closer this time.
After a while I spotted Yvonne (one more time thank you for helping me out for the tickets) in front of me with her best friend Brigitta (please to meet you).
Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds on stage. Playing his own new songs, but also, and I am happy, Playing some Oasis covers Champagne Supernova, Half the World Away, Little by Little, Don't Look Back in Anger,
and my favourite Wonder wall.
I was also at the gig on Saturday so I knew U2 was entering the back side of the stage on the right side and there we were standing with our mobiles and cameras to film or to take pictures of the moment they would leave the dressing room and climb up the stairs.
Here comes the intro it was my favourite number of The Waterboys “The Whole of The Moon”.
Yes, Bono in the lead walking out of the hallway to the back side,
If you go to the video part you can see the arrival.
The band is entering the stage and they directly take the catwalk to the centre of the stadium.
Same opening as the evening before “Sunday Bloody Sunday”
When they play the number “New Year’s Day” a man steps on the stage with a Polish flag with the name of Solidarność on it.This is taking us back to the year 1983.U2 dedicated this song to honor the people of Solidarność and Lech Walesa would would be the first President of Poland after the Communist party was out of power.
Two more songs are played on the catwalk. Bad and Pride.
It stands like a house.
Then the band goes back to the main stage and here is the start of The Joshua Tree album. All songs are there. The total album is played. 1987 is back !
On the large screen beautiful and amazing new video images made by Anton Corbijn.
I liked all the songs they played of the album. As you understand some songs were rarely played and some never. Off course the 3 hits were played first and then the other 8 songs.
Then after the break “Miss Sarajevo” a song (1995) that was made by The Passengers (U2 & Brian Eno) and with a guest vocal appearance of Luciano Pavaroti, singing the opera solo. It was based on the situation in Sarajevo in 1993. This time with a new video clip taken in a Syrian refugee camp in Lebanon.
With “One” the audience was lighting up that Arena with there mobile phones what created a beautiful atmosphere.
They finished with “I Will Follow”
Once more the showed the power of this song !
It was an amazing concert. I am happy that I had the chance to see them on both evenings !
Thank you U2 !
